Tuscany Lace Shawl - making lace friendly
Amy will introduce you to the joys of knitting lace the easy way. Our project will be the Tuscany Shawl, from Amy's book No Sheep for You. Knit in a smooth worsted-weight silk yarn, it feels amazing against the skin. We'll learn all the tricks that make knitting lace a pleasure, and the easy way to block your finished shawl.
Please bring with you:
- A copy of No Sheep for you (which will be available at Knit Camp at a discounted price for students of this class);
- You'll need 800 yards of silk or silk-blend yarn (3 skeins of Handmaiden Silken or 2 skeins of Handmaiden's Sea Silk are recommended, both of which will available to purchase at Knit Camp) in a solid or semi-solid colour for the project, but bring one skein with you to class to get you started. [Note: if using hand-dyed yarns, make sure you buy enough to complete the project!] Important note from Amy: If you are not going to use the recommended yarns, you will need to swatch your yarn before you come to class. Please use a needle one or two sizes larer than on the ball band. You'll want to achieve a loose, flowy stocking stitch, but there should be no visible holes. Whatever size needle produces this fabirc with your chosen yarn, please bring them to class. If you're not certain, feel free to bring your swatch and a selection of needles and Amy will be glad to help you determine the right size.
- 4mm (US 6) 40" circular needle
- 24 stitch markers (simple rings are the best)
Homework: Students must complete up until the end of row seven in the pattern, and be ready to start row 8. These first seven rows can be e-mailed to you if you do not own the pattern before Knit Camp, although you must own a copy of the pattern at Knit Camp. Amy will be happy to sign your book for you after class.
